BIG FISH Tax Free
By Bill Snover | October 19th, 2008The NAIFC is excited to introduce Mr. Jeff Specht. Jeff is now the official Taxidermist for the 2008-2009 Tournament Trail. You heard correctly, “The Official Taxidermist”! This year we have added a new prize incentive to the already awesome prize list.
Each tournament and championship is having the usual “BIG FISH” award. Along with that award, Jeff will mount your trophy free of charge and return it to you for your reflection and enjoyment. Once you win Big Fish, you must contact Mr. Specht and discuss with him the shipment method required to ensure your trophy’s safe arrival to him. Jeff will then mount the trophy and return it to you when it’s been completed.
As a child nature, animals and insects always fascinated Jeff. When he was a young teen he took the next step in his passion for wildlife and took on the hobby of taxidermy. His start came from a mail order taxidermy course called Northwestern School Of Taxidermy. Soon Jeff was preparing specimens on his parents’ picnic table. Jeff dabbled on and off with his taxidermy hobby for friends and family members for several years until raising his family and earning a living took priority over his sometimes-costly hobby. Jeff’s children were growing up when a much needed career change was prompted by the loss of his twenty-year factory job. He rekindled his passion for taxidermy. He contacted a local taxidermist and quickly went to work in their shop part-time.
It didn’t take much time before he realized that this was a career move that he had always wanted to make. To further hone his skills in taxidermy he enrolled in a fish taxidermy course at Northwest Iowa School Of Taxidermy and soon found himself working full time in the taxidermy shop learning game head and mammal taxidermy. At the same time Jeff took on a business venture and opened a studio of his own called “Wild Things Taxidermy”. Soon the passion he had for his work was showing. His attention to detail, hard work and countless hours of practice had paid off making him an award-winning taxidermist. Jeff extends his gratitude to his family and his friends Brenda Duvall, Jim Kimbell and Tom Matuska for helping him on his way to becoming a successful award-winning taxidermist. You can see his beautiful work in his studio in the picturesque town of Colby Wisconsin.
